Community Program

How can a big, global organization make a difference to a small, local community?

2010 Community Program

AkzoNobel may be a huge organization – but we’re still made up of people. And many of them want to do more to make a difference to the world around us. That’s why we started the AkzoNobel Community Program: to encourage employees to get involved in their local areas, and give them what they need to do it.

We’re as committed to our communities as we are to our customers, shareholders and employees. That’s why we introduced a worldwide initiative called the AkzoNobel Community Program. It brings together motivated employees from all over the world and gives them the means to make a real sustainable difference.

So far, over 5,000 volunteers from over 50 countries have worked on over 1,000 projects – from bringing color to the lives of orphans and lonely elderly in South Korea to providing a safe haven for abused and neglected children in the USA.

Every year we hold a competition to find the best contribution. The winner in 2009 was a team from our Functional Chemicals business in Kyungju, South Korea  with their ‘Surrounding orphans with love’ project, where a warm and comfortable family environment was created for the children at the Dae-ja-won Orphanage. Twelve employees set to work, cleaning and gardening, to help get the site in order. A roster is now in place for the team to visit each month, where they spend time with the children as well as continuing to provide practical support.
